THE REACTION OF THE QOLBU: IS IT THE HEART ORGAN, OR THE BRAIN?

Image
Assalamu’alaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh. We meet again with me, Abu Musa, in our Friday morning study session. Today is Friday, December 27, 2024. This morning I will briefly respond to a video as a form of reflection and intellectual enrichment for our understanding of Islamic teachings. This discussion is still related to the concept of Qolbu. There are several ustadz involved, whose names I will not mention out of respect for their credibility as scholars and religious teachers. What matters is the statement itself, because what we hear is a human statement, and it must be verified by the Qur’an, as the Kalamullah, the source of absolute truth and justice. Here is the statement: “When we wake up in the morning, for example, the choice of whether to wash our face or not, or when attending an invitation and choosing clothes, usually a wife asks her husband by bringing two outfits: ‘Dad, which one looks better, red or blue?’ The husband answers, ‘The blue one looks great.’ Bu...

AWOT (ALLAH WAY OF THINKING) PART 2 : QOLB

Image
QOLBU HEART OR BRAIN ? Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh. Greetings, it’s me Abu Musa again. This time, we will continue the discussion on Allah’s Way of Thinking , Part 2. In this part, Allah desires that we all use our intellect in the process of thinking, especially in understanding the signs in the universe and what has been revealed by Allah as a message to His Messenger to be conveyed to all of mankind, which is the Qur’an. We must understand that if we do not use our intellect in thinking about the signs of Allah in this universe and the signs of Allah that were revealed in the form of His Word to mankind, which serves as "hudan" (guidance), meaning the Qur’an, Allah indicates that we are like livestock, or even more misguided than livestock. This is mentioned in Surah Al-A'raf, verse 179, which reads: وَلَقَدۡ ذَرَأۡنَا لِجَهَنَّمَ كَثِيرٗا مِّنَ ٱلۡجِنِّ وَٱلۡإِنسِۖ لَهُمۡ قُلُوبٞ لَّا يَفۡقَهُونَ بِهَا وَلَهُمۡ أَعۡيُنٞ لَّا يُبۡصِرُونَ بِه...

AS-SUNNAH, AL-HADĪTH, AND THEIR POSITIONS

Image
Assalamualaikum Warohmatullahi Wabarakatuh Greetings from me, Abu Musa. As we discussed previously, we have learned that there are 3 entities of al-haq (the truth), which are Allah, the Qur'an, and the Laws of the Universe. These three entities are the primary sources of law that are mandatory for Muslims. However, we also recognize the terms as-Sunnah and al-Hadīth as secondary sources of law that we can use. In general, Muslims have misconceptions and a wrong perspective about as-Sunnah and al-Hadīth. Many people think that as-Sunnah is the same as al-Hadīth and also believe that both can be equated with the Qur'an. Let’s discuss this further. AS-SUNNAH comes from the root word sa-na-na (س ن ن), which means "a structured pattern of actions and subjective behaviors," just as sunnatullah refers to the actions or subjective behaviors of Allah SWT. This meaning of Sunnah is clearly mentioned in Q.S. al-Ahzab (33): 62. سُنَّةَ ٱللَّهِ فِي ٱلَّذِينَ خَلَوۡا...

AWOT (ALLAH WAY OF THINKING) PART 1.5

Image
EVE / WOMEN WERE NOT CREATED FROM A RIB BONE Assalamualaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh Greetings from me, Abu Musa After we learned that the creation of the universe is through the truth (al-haq) وَمَا خَلَقۡنَا ٱلسَّمَٰوَٰتِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضَ وَمَا بَيۡنَهُمَآ إِلَّا بِٱلۡحَقِّۗ وَإِنَّ ٱلسَّاعَةَ لَأٓتِيَةٞۖ فَٱصۡفَحِ ٱلصَّفۡحَ ٱلۡجَمِيلَ “And We have not created the heavens and earth and that between them except in truth. And indeed, the Hour is coming; so forgive with gracious forgiveness” (QS. Al Hijr : 85) We also dialectics that all of God's decrees regarding the creation of the universe cannot be contradicted. However, the doctrine still used by Muslims indirectly contradicts the creation of the universe itself, namely the doctrine that Eve, or woman, was created from Adam's rib. For someone who uses their intellect sharply, this would naturally seem strange because it contradicts the creation of humans, created from the essence of soil. In Surah Al-Mu’minun:...

AWOT (ALLAH WAY OF THINKING) PART 1 : MILLAH & AD-DIIN

Image
MILLAH AND AD-DIIN Assalamu’alaikum Warahmatullahi Wabarakatuh Greetings from Abu Musa. This time, we will explore how to think according to Allah, or AWOT (Allah's Way of Thinking). The question is: How should humans think according to Allah? The answer, of course, is found in the revelation Allah sent down in the Qur'an. The first thing we must learn is to separate the ideas of God from human thoughts. Human thoughts, according to the Qur'an, are referred to as millah , which are the results of human reasoning, conclusions, or dialectical processes derived from divine ideas, such as those from scholars, religious leaders, teachers, and others. Meanwhile, the ideas of God are referred to in the Qur'an as addiin or the way of life, the way of thinking, acting, and judging as taught by Allah SWT. Human thoughts or millah are subjective and may be right or wrong, but the ideas of God or addiin are objective and always true (Haq). So, what is an exampl...

VARIOUS TERMS AND MEANINGS OF TRUTH IN THE QUR’AN

Image
So far, we have almost been unaware of the degrees of truth as taught by the Qur’an. We often assume that the truth in various terms used has the same degree, such as equating the absolute truth (Haq) of the Qur'an with the soundness (Shahih) of hadith, simply because both are considered "true." However, there is actually a difference between the terms for "truth" that we often use: 1. HAQ Haq comes from the root letters ha-qa-qa (  ح ق ق  ), meaning the correspondence of a statement with reality, or what can be called "objective truth." The truth of HAQ is attributed to only three entities in the Qur'an: Allah (Al-Hajj: 62), the Qur'an (Al-Hajj: 54), and the reality of the universe (Al-Hijr: 85). This truth of HAQ serves as the standard of truth, meaning these three entities are the tools for verifying truth. A statement is considered true if it does not contradict these three entities. وَٱلۡوَزۡنُ يَوۡمَئِذٍ ٱلۡحَقُّۚ فَمَن ثَقُل...

THE CONCEPT OF THE QURAN (PART 2)

Image
IDEA In terms of terminology, an idea refers to an intellectual activity that in Arabic can be equated with the word فكر (fikr). The word, derived from the root fa-ka-ra , refers to the basic meaning of intellectual activity revolving around something or refers to the meaning of releasing/allowing things to pass and turning some parts of one thing into another. Practically, this meaning exists in the cycle of consciousness that begins with Encounter - Touch - Feeling - Experience - Knowledge - Understanding - Awareness, and it continues back to the next Encounter, endlessly. Thus, an idea is always preceded by a concept, and a concept always comes from a previous concept, culminating in the Eternal Concept or Qadim Abadi outside human consciousness. This concept outside human consciousness is often referred to as the Initial Idea of God or Divine Consciousness. This is the limit we can reach—there is no knowledge beyond the Eternal Concept or Qadim Abadi. The term Qad...

THE CONCEPT OF THE QURAN (PART 1)

Image
CONCEPT The word "concept" originally comes from the Latin word conseptum , which means something understood that has elements, components, and characteristics that can be given or named. In Arabic, this word is equivalent to mafhum (مفهوم), which refers to knowing or understanding something that exists, whether objectively or subjectively, whether tangible or existing in the idea. Every concept must come from something that already exists or from a previously existing concept, and so on, until it reaches the eternal concept or ancient concept, or in theological terms, it originates from the Qadim , which comes from and exists outside human consciousness. This eternal concept is the beginning of everything that we can understand and think about. So, in general, we can distinguish between two concepts: one that originates from and can be thought of by humans, and the final concept, which is the eternal (Qadim) concept that comes from and exists outside human consc...

HOW TO READ THE QUR'AN FOR BEGINNERS

Image
Assalamualaikum Warhomatullahi Wabarakatuh The Quran is the holy book of Islam, revealed to Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) through the angel Jibril. For Muslims, reading the Quran is an obligatory act of worship. It is not only about reading it, but also practicing its teachings in daily life, which should be done simultaneously. The purpose of the Quran's revelation is to serve as guidance for the pious, to bring glad tidings and warnings, and to provide healing for the lives of its followers. To begin reading the Quran, we must first recognize its letters to be able to read it properly and correctly. Through the Iqro method, each letter of the Quranic reading is learned. Iqro is a textbook used to learn the Quran. As is known, learning to read the Quran requires the right method to read it fluently. The learning process requires a teacher who uses this textbook to teach beginners. The Iqro book contains the letters of the Quran along with the correct way to pronounce them. This bo...

KHIMAR خمار & JILBAB جلباب

Image
KHIMAR خمار & JILBAB جلباب Today, we will discuss two terms in the Qur'an regarding clothing that Allah has commanded women to wear, which are KHIMAR and JILBAB. What is the difference between them? Let’s discuss. Khimar خمار has the root vowels kha-ma-ra ( خمر ), which means to cover something. From this word’s derivation, alcoholic beverages are called khamr because alcohol can obscure the mind. In the context of the obligation to cover the awrah, khimar refers to something used to cover the awrah. Allah says: وَقُلْ لِّلْمُؤْمِنٰتِ يَغْضُضْنَ مِنْ اَبْصَارِهِنَّ وَيَحْفَظْنَ فُرُوْجَهُنَّ وَلَا يُبْدِيْنَ زِيْنَتَهُنَّ اِلَّا مَا ظَهَرَ مِنْهَا وَلْيَضْرِبْنَ بِخُمُرِهِنَّ عَلٰى جُيُوْبِهِنَّۖ “Say to the believing women that they should lower their gaze, guard their private parts, and not display their adornment except that which ordinarily appears. They should place their khumur over their juyub .” (Q.S. An-Nur 24:31) In this verse, Allah uses the word k...
